In An Emergency
In an emergency, most of us would prefer to turn to vets in Leicestershire who know our pet personally.
That's why, while some vets in Leicestershire have sub-contracted their emergency service, we’re proud that our own duty vets still provide advice and treatment for animals registered with our practice.
Whenever you call us, our vet’s advice and emergency treatment will take into account your pet’s medical history and personality, based on your pet’s file.
Not registered?
In an emergency, if your pet isn’t yet registered with us, we’ll simply charge an emergency fee in addition to any consultation and treatment fees. Emergency over, you can make an appointment to register with our vets practice in Leicestershire.
What to do in an emergency
First of all, you must try to stay calm. Picking up on your distress will not reassure your pet.
- Call Cockburn Emergency Vets Leicestershire on 01530 836654. Do not come directly to the practice.
- Our duty vet will advise you on what to do next, based on what you tell us.
- If possible, have a pen and paper to hand so you can write down any instructions.
- We may ask you to come into the surgery, not because we don’t visit clients but because, in an emergency, our vets may need access to the facilities in our Leicestershire surgery.
- Alternatively, your emergency might be resolved by reassuring advice from one of our vets, so you won’t need to make the trip to our Leicestershire practice.
When we’ve dealt with your emergency, we may ask you to make an appointment at our Leicestershire vets practice during regular surgery hours. Or we may simply update your pet’s file so that your vet and vet nurse will know what has happened next time they see you.
